Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park

-Þingvellir National Park- is the ideal first stop on your -Golden Circle tour-, showcasing breathtaking landscapes and a deep historical legacy.

Established in 930, it served as the gathering place for Iceland’s first parliament, where settlers convened to create laws. The parliament remained here until 1798, and in 2004, Þingvellir earned its status as a -UNESCO World Heritage Site-.

More than just history, Þingvellir lies atop the -Mid-Atlantic Ridge-, marking the divide between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. It’s the only location worldwide where this rift is visible above sea level. At the -Hákið viewing platform-, you’ll find yourself standing on the edge of the American continent.

A brief stroll through the park brings you to -Öxarárfoss-, a picturesque waterfall with its own fascinating history.

Laugarvatn Hot Spring

Nestled beside a picturesque lake, an active hot spring continuously flows into -Laugarvatn-, keeping its shores ice-free even during Iceland’s harsh winters.

The views from the lake are simply breathtaking, offering a panorama of the mighty -Hekla- volcano and, on clear days, even glimpses of -Eyjafjallajökull-, the volcano that erupted in -2010-, disrupting air travel across Europe.

This spot holds yet another fascinating secret—a remarkable way Icelanders harness the Earth's heat. But that’s something you’ll uncover when you visit!
