Hiking in Kerlingarfjöll
Once we arrive at BaseCamp, our hike can begin. From the very first steps, we will cross a stunning desert landscape, flanked by two massive glaciers: Langjökull and Hofsjökull. Here, vastness reigns supreme. On a clear day, you can see for dozens of kilometers in every direction, with no signs of civilization in sight, offering a true sense of isolation and freedom.
As we move through this timeless landscape, navigating gentle ascents and descents, we will gradually approach our destination: Hveradalir. This otherworldly site feels like stepping onto a different planet. Once there, we will continue exploring along a scenic loop trail, revealing breathtaking views at every turn.
Hveradalir is a valley sitting atop an active geothermal area. Everywhere, hot springs and steam vents emerge from the earth, nestled among mountains in shades of orange and brown, creating a mesmerizing natural spectacle. Even in the height of summer, patches of snow can still be seen on the mountain tops, contrasting with the warmth rising from the ground.
