Exploration of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula

Snæfellsnes is often called “Iceland in Miniature”. This nickname comes from the fact that most, if not all, of the natural features Iceland has to offer can be seen on this peninsula. It means that with volcanoes, glaciers, waterfalls, lakes, black sand beaches, and lava fields, the peninsula has it all.

A journey to the Snæfellsnes is not only about visiting the highlights of the area. The peninsula has among the most beautiful roads in Iceland, therefore cruising on them is definitely part of the experience.

A highly volcanic region, with a rich history inherited from the Icelandic sagas, Snæfellsnes is the true gem of west Iceland.

We have plenty of other sightseeing tours, have a look!

Description of the private tour of Snæfellsnes Peninsula

  • We will drive about one hour for a coffee stop
  • Enjoy the most beautiful landscapes in their best variety.

Highlights of the day:

Mount Kirkjufell

Majestic mountain standing behind a waterfall, the mount Kirkjufell is the most famous mountain of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Its popularity increased even more after it was featured in Game of Thrones, and refered to as “The arrowhead mountain”.

Black Sand Beach: Djúpalónssandur

Djúpalónssandur is, as most beaches in Iceland, made of black sand. Bordering a gigantic lava field, the rock formation of the beach are simply stunning. The remains of an old shipwreck, scattered around the beach act as a reminder of the forces of nature.

The village of Arnarstapi

Probably the best visit of the day. Arnarstapi is a fishing village on the edge the atlantic ocean in the bay of Faxaflói. What the forces of both lava flows and erosion did to the shoreline is absolutely unique. We purposely did not choose our best picture, to preserve the surprise.
