Why is a private tour the best way to visit Iceland?

What do we call a private tour?

During a private tour, you have your own driver-guide, and you only travel with your co-travelers. Therefore, it is an experience that you only share with your family, your friends, or whoever you decide to travel with.

Private tours are the best way to visit Iceland. Being in a very small group, your driver-guide has the liberty to take you to places where big groups cannot go. And places that he likes personally. This is all about providing you with a very intimate experience.

Personalization

Your private tour actually begins long before you arrive in Iceland. Of course, you are free to book one of our ready-to-book sightseeing tours or hiking tours. But you are always welcome to send us a message via email or WhatsApp so we can design together a personalized experience for your journey to Iceland.

Also, the personalization of your tour does not only happen before your journey. During your tour, you are free to ask your driver to stop for a coffee, to specify that you would like to have seafood for lunch for example. Our guide will always do his best to accommodate.

Flexibility

When you book several day tours with us, we can always reschedule them and arrange their order with extremely short notice. In Iceland, weather conditions can change a lot with time and place.

Therefore, we can decide to swap the tours of Day 2 and Day 3, because it makes more sense weather-wise, up to the very last minute.

Travel at your own Rythm

During a group tour, your guide, at every stop, will tell you when exactly to come back. This means that every visit is timed.

During our private tours, you can decide to stay longer in a place that is really moving you and less in another one. Of course, there usually is an established program, but it is your choice to follow it or not. Our guide might suggest you some duration for your visits. Especially in winter when we have limited daylight. Or if we have a reservation somewhere (snowmobile tour, Restaurant …). But in the end, this is always your call.

Price

Prices for private tours are always given for the whole group. Our group limit at Lilja Tours is 6 people. Which matches the capacity of our vehicle. Therefore the price per person gets lower as you add more travelers to the group.

Private tours are obviously more expensive than group tour, as it is a more exclusive service. Although, as soon as you are 4, 5 or 6 travelers, the price per person will roughly be the same that you would get for a “small group tour” which usually means being in a group of 19 people. But you will have a personal service.

Why Choose Lilja Tours for your private tour?

A one-man company

Lilja Tours is a company owned and founded by only one person: Julien. He is a french man who fell in love with Iceland after taking a few trips there, and decided to settle.

After a few years of guiding, he decided to start his own business: Lilja Tours, named after his newly born daughter: Lilja.

When you send an email to Lilja Tours, it is Julien who will answer your questions, and personalize your tours. In most cases, he will also guide them. Therefore, in many cases, you will know your guide before coming to Iceland.

So when you book with Lilja Tours, you support a small, local business owned by someone passionate about his job and his country.

A very short list of approved guides

If the owner of the company will be your guide 90% of the time, he may sometimes not be available.

This is why we have a very short list of pre-approved guides. The guides on this list are only people of trust, as we do not want our clients to be guided by someone we do not know personally and professionally. We only work with the best guides.
