Golden Circle and Northern Lights Private Tour

This tour is going to take you on a journey through Icelandic wonders. The first part of the day will be dedicated to visiting the Golden Circle in depth. Then, at night, we will try and see the magnificent aurora borealis.

Exploring the Golden Circle with sightseeing and farm visits

The Golden Circle is the most famous touristic itinerary for a good reason. It is the best possible introduction to Iceland.

On the Golden Circle, you will learn about Iceland’s history, geology, and unique nature. You will, at the same time, gaze at the most beautiful landscapes and natural phenomena such as an active geyser.

To this program, we are adding visits to two different farms. One is a dairy farm, where you will get the chance to enjoy homemade ice cream. We truly consider it to be the best ice cream in Iceland. We will also have lunch in a tomato farm, where you will learn about how we do manage to grow tomatoes, all year long, in our arctic climate and latitudes. A pure miracle.

Northern Lights Hunt

The second part of our day is about trying to witness the auroras dancing in the dark sky. Northern Lights happen in the Northern hemisphere when charged particles blown by our sun, after being attracted to the poles by earth’s magnetic field, react with the gases in our atmosphere.

Centuries ago, Vikings considered the auroras to be the valkyries coming down to earth in order to escort the fallen warriors to Valhalla. Regardless of whether you prefer the legend or the science behind the Northern Lights, the show is always absolutely spectacular.

Golden Circle and Northern Lights: Program outline

  • Your guide will pick you up around 11 am in the morning
  • Your first stop will be lunch at the tomato farm of Friðheimar
  • The rest of the day will be dedicated to visiting the Golden Circle
  • You will have dinner in a location that will be determined by your guide, depending on weather forecasts, and where is the best area to see Northern Lights.
  • The Northern Light Hunt typically lasts until midnight to 1 am, but this can vary with weather conditions and aurora activity.

Golden Circle and Northern Lights Private tour: Visits of the day

National park of Thingvellir (Þingvellir)

In the middle of breathtaking, stunning landscapes, you will learn about Iceland’s Geology and History.

Þingvellir is where was founded the first parliament of Europe in 930, and where you can see the edge of the North American tectonic plate.

The best ice cream in Iceland

We will stop in a dairy farm, owned and operated by the same family since 1750. There we will taste some homemade ice cream.

We absolutely recommend you to get your ice cream with a cone, which is also homemade of waffle dough.

Strokkur

Strokkur is an active Geyser that can be seen on the golden circle itinerary. It bursts every 5 to 10 minutes and is extremely impressive in winter when the cloud of steam gets absolutely immense due to the cold air around it.

Next to it is Geysir, the geyser that named all the geysers in the world. But this one is now dormant.

Gullfoss Waterfall

Gullfoss translates to “Golden waterfall”. The name can have different possible origins and your guide will tell you all about it. But most importantly, this is the waterfall that gave its name to the whole “Golden Circle” route.

Visit and lunch in a Tomato Farm

Welcome to Friðheimar, where you will discover how, in Iceland, we accomplish the miracle of growing tomatoes all year round, despise our arctic climate. We actually surprisingly get a lot of help from nature!

This is also where we will have lunch
